selector knob turning by not connecting
I can turn my selector knob, but it is hard to turn and does not connect with the different settings. It just turns

It sounds like the knob is mechanically broken and will need to be replaced. You may be able to find parts online or from an appliance repair shop.
Most GE dryer parts new and old are readily available
