issue with the oven not starting.

Thanks for the information. I don't know who gave me the name of this website but it is a game changer. I watched the video and see it involves turning off the gas which is above my pay grade but at least I know what I am dealing with. Andrea

You should be able to turn the gas off at the gas meter which is usually on the outside of the premises. Where the gas company comes to read the meter so to know how much to charge for gas usage. At least you can where I am.

If you're using bottled gas, there should be a shutoff connection there also.

@jayeff I am just skittlish about doing so. I do know the location and have a shut off tool to use in case of earthquake.

You can turn the gas off at the meter and then turn on the gas burner in the stove and check if you smell any gas coming out.

There's may be a bit from what is left in the pipes between the meter and the stove, but that should be all.

The other more important thing is to not have any naked flames (lit cigarettes, cigarette lighter, etc) in the vicinity of where you're working (preferably none on anywhere in the premises) at the time and to have good ventilation (open windows, doors etc) in the kitchen.

Also don't forget to turn off the power to the oven (fuse/breaker in house power box)

Following these safety steps should mean you're good to go.

When you've finished the repair, after turning on (replace fuse) the power to the stove, first check that the oven's ignitor works (clicking sound heard) and then go out and turn on the gas at the meter. Check if you can smell gas in the oven. If all OK (no gas smell or hissing sound) then try turning on the oven and see if it works OK.

If the gas doesn't ignite, turn off the oven, turn off the gas at the meter, disconnect the power to the oven in the house power box and check your work.
