The Nintendo Switch is a handheld game console that can be played on the TV via a docking station, or on the go. Released March 3rd, 2017.

Right Joy Con will charge but not connect to switch.

I am currently setting up a used switch that won't connect to the right Joy Con when clicking in. I've been able to RCM successfully, so I know that some of the contacts on the rail work. I have used isopropyl alcohol on the ribbon cable contact, the pins at the bottom of the rail, and over the general rail to clean. The ribbon cable shows no abnormal bends, and all the contacts that are visible seem clean and intact. This is a new OEM Joy Con that it's being attached to, and the Joy Con charges when it's connected to the rail.

Since this is a new (to me) switch that I am setting up, I cannot go past the intro scene where it requires me to click in both Joy Cons to the unit (that eliminates the possibility of just using Bluetooth).

What else should I try now?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Jim!

So, a new Joy-Con failed on the Switch it’s right rail.

I would replace the rail anyway and see how that goes.

It’s the best (and safest) thing to do. The rail is probably partly dead.

Guide: Nintendo Switch Right Joy Con Sensor Rail Replacement

It’s really easy to do and worth the try.

Please keep us posted!

Hi @Dan0 ! I just replaced the right rail and still nothing. Do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

Hmm, is there a way to test it with another joy-con on the new rail?? Sorry that it didn’t worked.

@dan0 Already did. I'm almost certain it's a motherboard issue. Thanks!

Yes, then it does look like a motherboard issue... Is it possible for you to check it out? Unfortunately this won't be easy..
