Batteries run out really really fast why?

I don't use my camera a lot but I did yesterday and the batteries ran out after about 10 mins. Why and how can I make the batteries last longer??? They are AA batteries.

What sort of battery do you use in that camera? Is it a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, or AA batteries?
