Water leak slowly from the bottom

Not sure if this would be of any help but when I was a kid, I had a bunch of nails in my pants pocket. My mom put them in the wash not knowing they were in there. After that, my mom had to put rags down every time she did laundry. Apparently one of the nails poked something that was not fixable(as per repairman) The set was quite new so replacing was out of the question. I wish I could tell you what it was that it punctured, but I don’t know I just know that it was not fixable so for the next 20 some years my mom put rags down.
