Wiped keyboard with wet cloth. A few keys result in weird characters.

I was wiping down my keyboard with a damp cloth and now the keyboard spits out weird combinations when I type. For example, a results in awq or something along those lines.

I am curious as to what would cause this to happen. Certain keys work fine... so the damage seems isolated. Could this be a problem that could be fixed by cleaning the keyboard ribbon? If not, what are alternative that I should try?

Sounds like your cloth may have been much to wet and you've shorted out the keyboard. To confirm this hook up an external USB keyboard and see if it works. Let it sit a few days and see if it corrects itself. If that fails you will need to replace the upper case. About $250 for the part.

Check to see if you have your keyboard set to another layout. Go into system preferences -> Language & Text ->Input Sources -> and then make sure only U.S is checked.

Thanks for the quick reply!

The language and text settings are correct. Additionally, I have tested the computer under both OSX and Windows and have been able to replicate the problem - it seems like it is a hardware issue.

Same problem here...but...somebody recommended me to put the laptop in the sun. I covered the screen with a cloth and placed the wet keyboard in the direct sunlight. Only did that after 2 days and yet it works as normal again.
