HDD problem or firmware?

Hi, I bought a new 500gb toshiba hdd to replace the old ps3 hdd. I followed all the steps to install the official firmware, once the update is complete the ps3 stays on with the green light but the screen remains black. The 4 lights on the pad also turn on intermittently until they turn off after a couple of minutes. I tried to put back the old hdd and also installing the firmware and the play restarted without problems. Even if I try to install the firmware from the safe menu, the problem remains.

Is it a problem with the new hdd?

So, you’ve reinstalled the firmware on the old HDD, and this worked right away?

This probably means that the new HDD is bad or incompatible. It’s most likely just bad.

I would return it and get yourself a new one. Or return it and get yourself another one. I recommend to buy a Western Digital harddisk. Those are great! Or an SSD.
