The Nintendo 3DS XL 2015, marketed as the New Nintendo 3DS XL, was released October 11, 2014 in Japan and February 13, 2015 in North America.

Friend's New 3DS XL has water damage but no corrosion

My friend has a New 3DS XL that's bottom half had came in contact with water a few years ago.

The screen used to turn on after the damage but now does not after she gave it to someone to take a look at it.

It is missing the battery. She is trying to fix it and opened it up and noticed the water contact sticker was pink although there was no corrosion.

Is this an issue with the missing battery or something else?

Hi @ennchanted

In the absence of any obvious physical damage to the components etc, the only way to start finding out what's wrong is to connect power to the device.

Connect the charger to the device and check if it turns on etc. Note: Be ready to disconnect the power quickly from the device, if you see or smell smoke coming from the systemboard

If that works OK, then insert a compatible battery and check if it starts to charge when the adapter is connected to the device. If it does then allow it to fully charge and then check if the device works OK on the battery only.

If none or only some of the above work then more detailed testing on the systemboard would be required.

It's a process of elimination. You have to know what is or is not working by testing various options and then depending on the results work out what needs to be done next
