CD Player Unit Not Working
I have an old Sony CFD-510 CD/Cassette/Radio Boom box. The unit itself works great but I'm unable to to play CDs. Any thoughts on what's causing this or how to repair?
Is this a good question?

If the disc still will not play, depending on the location of your CD player, the issue can also be caused by condensation. Open the disc compartment and let the unit sit for about one hour to allow any condensation to dissipate. If the unit does not play any of the discs, the laser pick up may be dirty.

@matt52868 okay that sound s like your CD assembly is possibly having worn gears or a bad gear assembly. If it would just not read it, I would have thought a good laser lens cleaning could resolve that. Your issues may just be a little further in depth. Start with a good cleaning of the CD assembly.
To work on it, use the service manual as well as the supplement for the SM. I've added it to the Documents section on this site Sony CFD-510 Take a look at it and see if that is something you'd tackle. It's not really complicated but Boom boxes are cumbersome :-)
Just checked for parts and amazingly enough, there are actually still a few of those that are available.

@matt52868 what happens when you try? The more background information you provide, the better your chances of getting this fixed.

Hey @oldturkey03 thank you for responding. The CD player just won't read the disc. No error message is displayed, but I do notice that when trying to read a CD the plastic gears that move the laser slip and doesn't keep up with the CD spinning.
