Horizontal lines on my LG LED TV

Dears,

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my LG 49LB6200 LED TV for over a month now. There are white horizontal lines about 1cm apart that appear across the screen. These lines blink at regular intervals—appearing for a second or two, then disappearing for a second or two, and this cycle repeats continuously while the TV is on. Aside from this, everything else works perfectly (sound, color, etc.). When the lines disappear, the picture looks normal. Has anyone else faced this issue or can offer suggestions on how to fix it?

Pls refer pics & video of the issue attached herewith.

@dearkoolest those are very unusual lines. This almost looks like a memory issue. With something like that, I would try a new main board first.

by

@oldturkey03 oh is it.. actually 5 months back the tv was having some power issues, basically it kept on restarting whenever powered on.

So the technician changed the main circuit board and it indeed resolved that issue. And now, 5 months later this new issue has come up, so are you suggesting it might be due to that newly installed board?

P.s - the circuit board I'm referring to was 1 big board and the only board in the tv which has all the connections and wires and connector etc.

Hi @oldturkey03 .. I tried tweaking with the cables and even changed the power circuit back to the older (the one which had powering on off issue) but the display still has lines.. infact new problem has started now after this attempt. Display has become reddish in colour mostly where black shld be there.. the lines are same just this new add on of red tint.

Below are the images of the tv when I tried tweaking the circuits. The circuit board in brown color is the one I tried replacing with the older one, but the result was same.. also, I tried disconnecting the wide cables with blue color ends connected to the green color board (probably this has caused the red tint problem).. pls note, no damage happened from my end while trying this out and all the cables are firmly connected with no loose ends or so.

@dearkoolest horizontal lines are almost always related to issues with the GATE drivers (and thus with the LCD panel). We really would need to see what your screen looks like. See if you can get a couple of pictures of this and post those with your Question. Adding images to an existing question

There is always the possibility of issues with the driver (buffer) boards (long skinny boards that connect to the LCD screen via multiple bonded (non-removable) ribbon cables). Again, more pictures of those etc. might shed more light on this.

Update (10/09/24)

@dearkoolest yes, that is the main board. It sure looks like an error that I would attribute to the main board. Of course, check all of your LVDS cables. Make sure the ends are not frayed or corroded etc. Anything after that will be an error with the driver boards (long, skinny circuit boards that connect to the panel directly).

Give this a try. Disconnect the power from the TV. Now disconnect one of the two ribbon cables leading from the main board to the driver board. Reconnect the power cable and turn your TV on. Note the screen and check if it looks different. Then do the same, just with the other cable. Always disconnect the power cable to avoid any short circuits.

@oldturkey03 will it be safe for the tv to disconnect one of the ribbons and power on? Also, i still have the old discarded problematic board which the technician replaced with a new one, I'm thinking of replacing it back in to test how the screen reacts, what do you think?

by

@dearkoolest yes it is safe, as long as you connect the power. Don't ever try this with the power on since you can shorten out the pins. . I do expect the side that you disconnected to not have any images.

by

@oldturkey03 sure, thanks for the assistance.. I'll try this & will update you on this soon :)

Hi, I am experiencing almost the same problem on my Xiaomi TV 2, the only difference is that only the lower half of the screen is failing. The TV uses an LG panel. Again, I replaced the power board a couple months ago (the old one failed due to moisture). You mentioned disconnecting one side of the cable, what should happen to the screen after disconnecting it if it is caused by a faulty motherboard?

by

@zaraleelus85755 Hi. Even mine became problematic after the technician replaced the power circuit board due to some power on/off issue. Pls note, I tried replacing the newer board with the older once in expectation that the display will be normal if its the new board's fault but the problem was just the same. So, I gave up on the issue, also, as my technician suggested that this issue is due to panel which would be illogical to replace due to high cost. So, I would suggest you to schedule a company technician's visit and see what he has to say.. pls keep updating your progress here, it might give me new hope as well and i might get my TV fixed the same way.. Also, if possible pls share photos/videos of your issue here, it might help resolve faster..Thanks!

@dearkoolest the larger of the green boards (the one with the video connectors etc. is your Main Board. The smaller green board, the one that has the 2 ribbon cables going to the buffer boards, that is your T-con board. Disconnect your power and disconnect one of the ribbon cables. then restart your TV. See what that shows. Then power off, disconnect the power and reconnect the first cable and disconnect the second cable. Power your TV on and see what you get.

@oldturkey03 Thanks for your support.. but I think I should give up now, my 1st attempt has already deteriorated the screen adding red tint to it & I don't want to take any more risk because atleast it's working what if it stops completely.

But, thank you dear for all your efforts and time :)

@dearkoolest there comes a point where we all have to make those decisions. It’s important to know when to say stop. It’s the right thing to do. If you ever want to work on it again consider replacing the mainboard and LVDS cables. All the best to you and you know where to find us :-)
