Is the flex display cable replaceable?

Hi!

I suspect the flex cable on my Acer got flexed one too many times. The microphone seems to only work if the lid is 90 degrees straight up from the keyboard. Tilt it a little and the audio goes away. I had this unit apart once to upgrade the RAM and I had to pull the display connector at the motherboard, but reseating it didn't clear the problem.

So I guess my question is: is this cable replaceable or do I have to replace the whole display assembly? Where would I get one? I can't find one on the Acer site.

Many thanks for your help!

Regards,

Bill

ka1ssr, the Acer site would not be a good one to go to. These companies are not into selling you their service pieces, but want you to have their service centers do the repair for you. That is why ifixit is such a great site. Anyhow, both the speaker assembly and the display cable are readily available. The part number for the speaker is 2616KMG04E and the LCD cable is DD0ZG5TH101. The guides for your Acer are here. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the quick response, oldturkey03. I'm not having trouble with the speaker; those work fine. I'm having trouble with the microphone in the lid cutting out when the lid is moved beyond 90 degrees of the keyboard.

My one problem right now is getting the last screw in the display lid to come out. I think the guys and gals on the assembly line were bored that day and thought they'd liven things up a bit by increasing the torque settings on the screwdrivers. But that is for another thread...

Thanks again!

Bill
