What are the red arrows indicating?

When I try to take a photo on my F301, red arrows flash on the panel inside the viewfinder. What might these arrows be indicating? What may be broken?

The arrows are the light meter guidance system. Depending on the mode you are using they tell you if the exposure is correct be it Aperture, Speed, Auto or Manual.
