Phone keeps going in to recovery mode

Hello,

I am having trouble getting my iPhone 12 to boot up. The screen is damaged with vertical lines and when turned on it goes straight to recovery mode. I have plugged in to iTunes and it successfully completes the restore, however once it is finishes with the cycle it still boots in to recovery mode instead of ios. I have connected to 3utools and tried the exit recovery mode option but it just boots back to it,

Also, the phone won't turn on when pressing the side button, only when the charging cable is plugged in (stays on with cable unplugged after so no issues with battery). I am able to use the side button and volume buttons to reboot so I don't think any of those are stuck and forcing it in to recovery mode.

I have opened up the phone and tried disconnecting the earpiece speaker and front sensor assembly but it doesn't make a difference. Any ideas what could be causing it and what else I could try?

Thanks in advance

I have figured out that the issue actually is being caused by the Power & Volume Button Flex Cable as the phone boots in to ios when this is disconnected. I will disassemble the phone far enough to clean out the buttons and replace the cable if that doesn't sort it.

The buttons click in fine which is why I didn't think any of them were stuck.

Good find, Billbert! Be sure to take lots of pictures as you work, then you can create the very first guide to that repair available on the internet!

Just as a side note, on the iPhone X I fixed, the flash/microphone assembly also contains the power button, so it's entirely possible your phone and that one did indeed run into exactly the same problem.

Try unplugging the flash/microphone flex cable. My granddaughter's iPhone X was doing something very similar and replacing that assembly fixed the problem on her phone.

Unfortunately iFixit doesn't have a guide for that repair, but the Spanish site Nobody Calls Me Chicken (Nadie Me Llama Gallina) has just what you need. For those of us who don't speak Spanish, the Chrome browser does a good job of translating, making the guide quite usable.

Here's the part you need; you can support iFixit's repair efforts by purchasing directly from them or save a few bucks and go shopping on places like Amazon, eBay or AliExpress, among others.

Thanks for your help Jerry. I disconnected the flex cable for the flash but it didn't help. I have identified the issue is actually with the Power & Volume Button Flex Cable as the phone boots up when I disconnect this.

The fixes that work on Android phones are generally not helpful for iOS devices, but points for trying!
