Repair guides and disassembly information for laptops manufactured by ASUS.

Laptop won't charge or boot up unless plugged in

I bought my ROG Flow X13 less than a year ago and now it won't charge or boot up unless plugged it. It happened randomly when I was using the laptop and the battery fell to around 15% so I plugged it in. Then I noticed it hadn't charged at all after a few hours. So I unplugged it and my laptop just turned off. Now it wont turn on unless plugged it and won't charge at all. It is stuck randomly at 13-17% when i boot it up everytime and won't change from that number at all. Here's what I've tried:

  1. Hard Reset (40 seconds holding the power button, both with the cable connected and disconnected).
  2. Checked the battery health in MY ASUS, and it indicates that everything is okay.
  3. Uninstalled battery drivers in the device manager.
  4. Went to the BIOS and restored all settings to default.
  5. Tried using a different power outlet for the charger.
  6. Everything is up to date (BIOS, software, drivers, everything).

I'm considering disconnecting and reconnecting the CMOS battery according to suggestions I found online but I am a bit hesitant. What else can I do?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi!

Well tbh it just sound like the battery is dead and need a replacement. I would try this first, because you almost tried everything to no avail.

You can try a BIOS update first, but this does just sound like the battery is dead.

Some time ago I fixed an HP with a broken battery. Checked the battery health in "HP Support Assistant" and it was also telling that it was OK, while it was not. So you cannot fully rely on the application..

EDIT after reply from BenZ78 : If you still have warranty on it, just get it fixed under warranty!! And do not make any hardware changes as ASUS need to fix it.

I dont have a warranty on it.

I tried removing and reconnecting the battery again but the battery connector won't plug in. If I open the laptop plugged in now, it shows 100% battery but the battery is not plugged in.

Okay, best thing to do is probably to replace the battery!

As it is only almost one year since you bought it, i would not want to tinker around and would directly go to ASUS support and file a claim. Perhaps you still have warranty.

I had the same issue and I keep reading more and more people having the same. The only way to fix it for me was a full repair which requires me to fly to the US as I bought it there and Asus didn't want to repair in Germany. Quite ridiculous as it was definitely an issue with the decide ..
