Repair and disassembly information for Google's Pixel 8 Pro smartphone, released in October 2023. Identified by model numbers G1MNW (NA/AU), GC3VE (EU, India), and GE9DP (JP).

How can I remove the microphone, cameras and/or sensors?

Let's say I buy a second-hand Google Pixel 8 Pro and I want to remove the devices cameras, microphone and/or sensors (i.e. accelerometer, etc.) in order to prevent any possible eavesdropping from hackers or other third-parties.

When I take the phone apart, where on the motherboard do I look and how do I remove those components?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@pixelitis you can't. Your phone checks those every time is starts up. Removing any of those will put your phone into a boot loop. I strongly suggest any phone other then a smartphone for your purpose. Something like a Light Phone or maybe even a Mindphone and my favorite the Punkt, should just be the right phones for your needs.

There is a german company called nitrokey (www.nitrokey.com), which sells google pixels with removed cameras and sensors. (They call it NitroPhone) So there should be a way to do this. If i remember correctly u can also send them your phone and they remove the sensors and camera for you.

They have a friendly support, maybe they can give you some more information.

If you use Graphene Os as operating system, you won't have problems booting without sensors and cameras.

Graphene Os also has Software toggles to deaktivate the sensors, if that satisfies your privacy needs.

I hope that helps, even if I could not help you with an instruction.
