You probably simpily broke the screen you could try to replace it and condidering it got really scratched up this is probably the case

If you feel comfortable replacing it from what I've seen the screen costs ~$50 USD and there is (in my opinion) a pretty good video by Hello Phones! on youtube (linkie)

The one area where I would suggest doing things slightly differently than the video is that I would test the display before actually gluing it down. It looks like you may be able to unplug the display connector without even removing the battery (of course, unplug the battery first!), so if that's the case, just unplug the display before you do anything else and plug the replacement in. You should be able to plug the battery back in and boot it at that point to verify that the screen is going to fix the problem before you replace it. Most vendors will allow you to return a screen as long as it hasn't actually been installed if it turns out the new screen doesn't fix the problem.
