Surface Pro 4 - not starting after battery removal

My Surface Pro 4 does not start after battery removal. I have followed all the steps of ifixit manual for battery replacement, except the installation of the new battery. When plugged, the led in the power supply turns on.

Does anyone have an idea to overcome this challenge?

Hi elobasic,

Considering that there is no battery (hence no power) going to the components, it makes sense that the surface pro 4 wouldn't start without it.

I'd advise you just place a new battery back in. Unfortunately the surface pros aren't build great for repairability, hence having complicated designs and annoying mitigations.

Thanks Arandom!

I found out a workaround that may be valuable to share:

  • Applying black electrical tape in the chassis, under the motherboard connectors to the battery

My Surface Pro 4 is now working!

Oh, and if you don't mind, I would advise you to potentially make a troubleshooting entry in the FAQ for your model.

That is if your model exists or not (it should)
