Motherboard short, how to diagnose?

My laptop quit shut off in the middle of a game, it was plugged in and will not turn back on..

The light on the ac adaptor goes out when I plug it into computer

If the charger port is disconnected from motherboard it dose not go out.

If the charger port is connected and the battery is disconnected it still goes out.

Is it safe to say the motherboard is shorting out and I should just replace it or do i need to do more test? Is there another fix?I don't want to buy the part and still it doesn't work...thanks for the help

@jay3827 you would need the proper schematic and teh component layout for your motherboard. Then you need to measure the components, traces along the part of the circuit for your DC-In jack.
You would have to disassemble your laptop and remove the motherboard. The model for your board should be printed on the topside (facing the keyboard) It is possible that this is a Quanta AM9C DAAM9CMBAD0 but this is just based on what I find.

@jay3827 wonder if that was soot from an exploding part. Post some good pictures of your motherboard with your question. That way we can see what you see. Adding images to an existing question

@oldturkey03 Great article thanks, I took the motherboard out it says model am9b on it..had some black marks like something burnt on fan and next to ram slot that wiped off
