Screen replaced but screen not working - external monitor works

My tablet is the SM-T875

Hi all,

I have looked around on the forum before asking but not really seen an answer so I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

My Samsung S7 Tablet screen broke and I replaced the screen. I have not see a backlight display since replacing it.

I've checked for kinks in the 2 LCD Cables and cannot spot any, but currently awaiting replacement parts for them (just in case).

I have done a test and managed to plug a USB C into the charging port which has an HDMI connection to use an external monitor and can see the external monitor working (in fact everything I am writing here is off the external monitor of the S7 Tablet where the screen is not working.

THe only thing I didn't do is take the battery out when carrying out a replacement screen (reading the forums that seems to be a possability of short circuiting the LCD cable) - but IFixit strip down did not suggest that.

I am just trying to understand what would be the issue as if the 2 LCD cables I am going to replace does not work, I have no idea what would be the issue.

Also i'm not sure but would Samsung come out to 'replace' my screen if I have opened it or will they just write this off as not working. Again it's working off the external monitor so i can't put this down to a hardware issue.

Many thanks

It is probably a faulty screen, or the screen isn’t fully connected to the board. Is it a Samsung brand screen?

I suspect a faulty screen at the moment. No it's not a Samsung Brand screen.

@pc83 we will need to know the exact model of your Samsung S7 Tablet. I'd expect something like a SM-T970 or similar. This is important since the boards may differ by model number.

Start by using the Samsung flowchart and work with that. I know you are waiting for new cables but in the meantime check the components as listed here

Block Image

Next use the component layout file and open it in your PDF viewer. Use the search function of that viewer to locate the components to be checked (i.e. C8062) on the board.

SM T875 Component

If your board looks way different or if you have any issues with any of the components etc. post some images of it with your Question. that way we can see what you see and we'll all be on the same page.

@oldturkey03 - thank you for the detail.

My tablet is the SM-T875.

I am pushing to a faulty screen to be honest and will make them aware of the latest information.

The flow chart is really useful and means I can now do a sanity test.

I kind of suspect if the mb was broken for the screen I shouldn't be able to push to an external monitor.

@pc83 the flowchart is only for the display circuitry to the display and not for the complete video circuitry like HDMI input etc.

I do hope and think you are probably right with this just being a bad screen. Let us know how it works out when you have a replacement. Best of luck with all your repairs. Repair is War on Entropy!

@pc83 the answer has been edited to now show the steps for the SM-T875 :-)

@oldturkey03

Thank you for changing the PDF to show the relevant components for my tablet.

Will be doing the testing tomorrow so will just give an update tomorrow once done.

Morning all.

Well my ipad is now fixed!

Out of a miracle before I was about to test my LCD flex cable came and thought let me plug this in first before I start to test and the monitor came alive again. I plugged the old LCD flex and wouldn't work and replugged the new one again and it worked.. so this proved potentially through heavy hands, or having the tablet switched on I short circuited the cable.

So I would say when you are doing an LCD Digitizer replacement to make sure your tablet is switched off first. If it's not.. then allow the battery to drain out (if you have no screen to see to switch it off) or switch it off.

Above all now have a happy little daughter playing with maths and watching youtube. :)

Thank you for providing me thr component and flow diagram I have kept a copy because that is so useful.

Hopefully this thread helps someone else in a similar position.
