Hi Markus,

Let's see if we can examine your situation and puzzle out what might be going on.

First of all, basic charging only requires two pins - the plus and minus power signals. Your basic USB-A plug has four pins altogether; there are an additional two pins there for communication.

So my first thought is the communication lines on your phone are damaged or missing, leaving the power pins intact. That would allow the phone to charge but not talk to a computer.

However, that doesn't explain your inability to charge when plugged into a computer; generally computer USB ports do provide power outputs but I suppose it's possible they may need the communication before turning on the power lines.

I'm trying to figure out how you might test this; there are a couple of ways that come to mind. First of all, the phone has to communicate with the charger in order to use fast charging, so if it won't go into fast charging mode then that could be an indication. According to Apple, the only way to really tell is that the phone will charge to 50% in 30 minutes if it's fast charging, so that's not a great diagnostic tool.

The other thing you could do would be to plug in a USB device into the phone. The lightning cable makes that a lot harder than it has to be, but plugging in a mouse or a keyboard would tell you if the communication is working or not.

Given that you've verified that other phones work and it's only that particular one that's having problems, the most likely cause would be the charging port. If it was mine, I would try to see if I could diagnose it as above, as well as checking the charging port with a flashlight and a magnifying glass looking for dirt, debris or broken and/or missing pins.

Clean the port out with some 90% or higher concentration isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, an eyeglass cloth and a toothpick.

If it's still not working or you find issues, the next thing to try is to replace the charging port. It's a fairly involved repair and unfortunately the guides available here on iFixit leave a bit to be desired, but here's a well done guide from the Spanish site Nadie Me Llama Gallina.

Manuales / Apple iPhone 11 / Flex with charging connector - Nadie Me Llama Gallina

It's in Spanish, but if you use it with the Chrome web browser, the automatic translation makes it quite usable even if Spanish isn't your native language.

Update (03/29/24)

@markus33990 It gets worse, Markus. Every time you try a password and it's incorrect, the phone then extends the amount of time before you can try again. So if it's disabled for 8 hours, then there have already been several password attempts made, and the next one will extend the time even further.

According to the experts, after the 10th attempt the phone will be locked permanently and must be wiped and restored via iTunes.
