Will Apple accept logicboard which was attempted to be repaired?

Hello,

I would like to ask if anyone has experience with the Apple self repair service program. If I were to order a logic board through this service, the price would be approximately 1500 euro, but in the description it is written that if I return the original board to the Apple, they will refund me 950 euro, so the price of the board would be only 550 euro. Is there any way to find out in advance whether the given money will be returned to me? Will it bother them that someone tried to repair the board before (one connector is unsoldered from the board, otherwise everything is on it)?

I'm curious to know the answer to this too! Maybe you can ask Apple anonymously through their chat support or support phone number?

@andrejprac54976 Your comments did confuse me (but that is easily done ;-). Let me see if this will help. The connector in Question is reference designator JP400 and it is the FaceTime camera connection. Not connected to your LCD backlight but it does connect ot the ambient light sensor. It is an iPex 20875-028E-01 connector and these are the connections

doubtful, apple had policies in place to stop giving people discount whatever the case, what i would like to know is what happened your logic board and why the connector was removed

I asked about what could be wrong with the logicboard in this question: MacBook Pro 14" 2021 logicboard won't turn on

Today I tried un-original Apple cable (DELL XPS 120W USB-C power adapter) and smoke came out of the board, I immeadiately disconnected it, but I probably fried something.

I added a photo of the missing connector. If I found correctly, it should be the camera connector. Someone before had soldered the entire connector on the flex cable from the display assembly, so the camera would probably never work on that macbook even after replacing the board, but I could live without front facing camera.

by

@andrejprac54976 - Well, the connector part is not missing! When you tried disconnecting the ribbon cable you pried under both ends the cable end and the logic board part which is still stuck onto the cable!

Which logic board is this the original or the replacement?

by

@danj I already received a MacBook in this condition, but you were right, I managed to remove the original connector from the flex-cable connector. Under it, it looks like the connector on the edge is unfortunately burnt. What kind of connector is that? What functionality would I lose if it didn't work? I think that it should be camera connector, but I want to be sure. The broken connector is on the original board, I didn't order a replacement, I'm still trying to fix the original one, but I'm not an expert. I managed to repair A2141 board in the past by replacing water damaged component, but I have problem with diagnostic and measurement.

by

@andrejprac54976 - Ah! They did the damage, I would just replace the logic board as you only have a limited time to return the old board for credit.

In addition, as it sounds like the power was not properly disconnected as the screwdriver shorted across burning things.

As far as functions this connection deals with I can’t be sure which one does what, these two connections one is the displays backlight power, the other is the the camera which also manages TrueTone and keyboard backlight control.
