Can I test the 27” 5k screen on a 21.5 model?

I took the screen off a mid 2015 27” iMac to swap out the HDD for an SSD. Stupidly I didn’t realise it had on board SSD, however when I reassembled, the screen would not fire up, and now the fan comes on full speed. I’ve replaced the wide cable but still no life - I do get 3 LEDs, but not the fourth. I want to find out if the screen is dead or not, can I connect it to a 21.5” iMac logic board to see if it will work?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

How did you take it apart? Did you follow a guide?

I followed a video guide but the monitor leads were

Very difficult to get off the logic board. I’ve done this before with a 21.5” and it went absolutely fine

While I am not too sure about the 21.5" and 27" screens being cross-compatible with each other, I do have a feeling that this may not be possible judging by how Apple is.

However, what you could do is connect an external monitor to your iMac, and see if it shows an image instead of just trying to hook up a proprietary display that probably wont work with your model of iMac.
