Removed camera and microphone assembly and now screen is too dim

I carefully separated the frame from the backplate to about halfway down the screen. Then with tweezers, I removed the cable from the port on the microphone/camera assembly bar. Seemed pretty straightforward. I then snapped the frame back in place.

I can tell everything is working normally with the os upon powering back up. However.. the screen is extremely dim. I can just barely see the Lenovo logo and then it’s too dark to see anything afterwards.

I’m assuming that part of the assembly I removed is the lighting for the screen? I really want to leave the camera and microphone out of the computer. What should I do to get the screen illuminated again? The brightness function buttons don’t appear to be doing anything now.

Thank you

Hi @gmoeller43577

Did you disconnect the battery from the motherboard first, before doing any further disassembly/reassembly to do the repair/modification?

If not or even if you did, check if the F1 fuse on the motherboard is OK. This fuse supplies power for the screen backlights.

Hopefully it is marked on the board. If not you will need to find a boardview file for an NM-B471 motherboard.

If the fuse is faulty search online for ERBRD3R00X (supplier example only) to find suppliers that suit you best.

@gmoeller43577 sounds like you disconnected your backlight as well. Reconnect the camera and see if your backlight comes on. To check the fuse and the backlight circuit use this ThinkPad T480s NM B471 Component layout are the last two pages. Use the PDF readers search function to find the components etc. you are looking for. Not as neat as others but it's workable.
