Replace broken keycap without the plastic underneath

Hello,

so I have a MacBook Pro from 2014 here, where one key is missing. The button is still working, if I "click" it, however the cap is missing. Thinking, that I only need to get the cap, I bought some caps off of aliexpress, however, I then realized that that white "plastic" underneath is missing... How can I fix that key to have it fully working with a keycap again?

@nameless7069 Apple refers to this as version S keyboard. See if this Keycap Replacment will help you out with the repair

@oldturkey03 - OT your page access is forbidden! Is it just a duplication of the BookYard reference I posted in my answer?

by

@danj why would I even want to repost something? I don't want to waste my time reposting stuff since that does not help any OP. Reposts are only useful to either build further on it or for clarification.

@nameless7069 once I know you can access this Key Replacment I will move it back to a comment. Not sure why it gives an error when I place it as a comment. Anyhow, hope it helps.

I can indeed access it, thank you, I'll have a look

Its hard to tell which version of keyboard you have. Apple contracted two different companies to produce them for this system. Review this web page to identify which you have. You may need to pop off one of the other arrow keys to help you Key Caps Click on the image to dig down to the discrete parts.

@danj removed another arrow key and it definetely looks like type k... however, when removing, I realized, that underneath, it's not only that white plastic missing, bt also that "dot" in the middle...

@nameless7069 - TheBookYard can supply the rubber cap as well.

by

@danj thank you, ordered another keycap, the plastic scissors and the rubber dome... Hope it works out

by

@danj you don't happen to have a guide on how to insert the rubber dome and scissors, do you? removed one scissor clips and can't get it back in now...

by

@nameless7069 - Sorry, iFixit doesn’t have a guide, I believe TheBookYard folks throw in a installation sheet. If not there are a few YouTube vids you can review.
