Can not power on without external power

The controller will not switch on without being plugged into the xbox or on the charging Dock.

However once powered up like this I can remove external power source or dock and use wireless as normal, the home button also works in the xbox menu!

It just won't power on when wireless...

Battery is OK as I've swapped it already.

All board connections pads are clean and carbon free.

Any ideas guys n gals

I'm not scared of Pad/trace repairs confident soldering with iron or air, but this has me stumped.....

My first thought would be the battery supply circuit as the cable seems to get it working.

This site gives quite a detailed overview of what goes where.

Thanks for that input brother!

I've only got a basic multimeter and really only done trace repairs and obvious component replacement.

Like I say this has me stumped but I will have another look...

I'm wondering if the standby voltage is supplied by the middle pin of the battery as that also displays 4.26v fully charged and decreases at the same voltage as the + pin upon discharge...

Or am I making things more complex in my mind lol

Kind regards Jace

@stonerjace middle pin is usually a temperature sensor thing in the battery. A wrong alignment of the pins can also cause a problem with starting on just battery power. Bad contact on the pins can also cause this.
