Lenovo Flex 5-15ALC05 laptop Keybaord and Touchpad doesnt work always.

Good day,

I have a question about a repair I performed for a Lenovo laptop.

I replaced the LCD Back Cover because the hinge was loose.

Only now I have the problem that occasionally the keyboard and touchpad of the laptop do not work in Windows.

And the laptop no longer turns on automatically when you open the laptop.

Restart the laptop a few times and then it works.

The touchscreen always works

In the BIOS the keyboard always works, I cannot test the touchpad there.

I deleted the drivers and re-downloaded and installed them from Lenovo's website.

I installed another SSD with a clean installation of Windows on it.

I tried Windows 10 and Windows 11. With Windows media creation tool

I also downloaded and ran Recovery Media from Lenovo without success.

If the problem occurs, the numlock LED lights up continuously

Who can think along with me?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @davecsu,

Just some general observations.

I don't know the model but looking at the user manual, it states when "using it in stand, tent, or tablet mode, the physical keyboard of your computer is disabled to prevent inadvertent typing", so perhaps the touchpad would be disabled also. Assuming that the keyboard/touchpad work in BIOS because no drivers for the touchscreen have been loaded yet.

Can you restore their function by pressing the touch keyboard icon in the Windows notification area?

Not turning on again from "sleep" or "hibernation" by opening the lid, if this is what you meant, can indicate that perhaps there's a sensor problem.

Wonder if they use the one sensor for tent/stand etc and lid close/open

Usually with "wake up" type issues there is a problem with the sensor arrangement between the lid and the case. Sometimes it is a magnet in the lid and a magnetic switch in the body and other times it is a light sensor somewhere in the body (or lid) that gets covered by the lid (or body) when it is closed.

Again I don't know your model but with some the sensor (be it magnetic switch or light sensor) is located the area between the top row of keys on the keyboard and the end of the top case assembly so that it will be covered by the bezel below the screen, when the lid is closed.

Then again with others there's a sensor near the webcam at the top of the screen that gets covered by the front end of the top case/keyboard assembly when the lid is closed.

If you haven't already got it here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Unfortunately it doesn't mention any lid sensors.

I couldn't find a free schematic download for the laptop but here's a link where you can purchase the schematic and the boardview file which may help to locate a likely looking component so at least you know where to look.
