Dell ultrashort throw projector.

After 20 minutes of normal use, the projector goes to gray screen

I have a Dell ultra short.throw, which I know is not made or even serviced anymore by Dell. The projector works fine for 20 minutes or so, and then it goes into a gray screen. The gray screen is still lit by the bulb but no image is coming out. The sound, if connected through Arc, is not affected. I tired taking it apart and dusted out the inside with canned air, but it still has the same issue. Any ideas?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi @smetzger27159

Can you still see the projector's OSD menus when this occurs?

Seems as though it might be an overheating problem affecting the DSP IC perhaps.

Try using the USB port to view images/movies to see if it is the DSP or perhaps the HDMI controller that is the problem.

Did you test it with the cover removed after you took it apart ".... and dusted out the inside with canned air..." you didn't mention if you did or not?

If not then you could also remove the cover and check if it works OK with the cover removed or if you place a fan to direct air over the projector with the cover removed.

If it does work OK without the cover (or with a fan) then it is an overheating problem.

Just what I'd initially try
