Problems from unused pressure contact?

Within the iPhone 4 and 4S, there is a pressure contact that meets with the rear, glass panel of the phones. I am not too sure whether this pressure contact completes an antenna extension of any of the radios, or if it is simply RF shielding. Nevertheless, the transparent panel (sold by iFixit and other retailers) does not use this pressure contact. Since it is obviously there for a reason, will any problems result from purchasing a transparent rear panel? Very interested in the product!
