Can it be repasted?

My processor is constantly running at 100% and my laptop is getting very hot very quickly. I know Asus isn’t know for using good thermal compound and I’ve also had this laptop for around 7 years so either way, it’s due. Does it use standard thermal paste or something else like thermal pads?

Hi @beardysteve

Looking at the image in Step.16 of the ifixit Asus Q524U Motherboard Replacement guide, both the CPU and the GPU appear to have residues of have thermal paste on them.

Here's the ifixit How to Apply Thermal Paste guide that may help.

@beardysteve

You may also have to check why the CPU is constantly running at 100% as this is unusual.

Go to Task Manager → Processes → CPU and check which process is causing the CPU to be operating at this level.

To get to Task Manager right click on the Taskbar.

If you meant the CPU fan then as you said the thermal paste may need refreshing
