Why are my keys "f", "r", "4" and "5" not working?

My laptop warranty expired about 2 years ago. I've had problems with keys "f", "r", "4" and "5" for a year now. These keys are next to each other. If I press one of those buttons let's say 10 seconds, the key usually starts working a little. If it doesn't start working, usually I press two of those buttons in turn and they usually start working. If the laptop fan starts making noise those buttons usually stop working. I have tried cleaning under the buttons but it didn't help. Is it possible that one certain electric circuit that responds to input from these buttons is malfunctioning? Is there some way to fix this? Thank you in advance :)

Answer this question I have this problem too

If you are using a mouse with a dongle, that might be the problem. I had the same issue with some set of keys in alignment. I replaced the keyboard and after a while another set of keys in alignment had the same issue. I read it somewhere online that it's some sort of conflict between the mouse and the keyboard. What worked for me was to uninstall the mouse driver, then I switched the port I used for the mouse dongle from the one closer to the screen to the second port. I have not a had the problem ever since. I also returned the original keyboard, no issue faced. What I also did was not to remove the dongle from the port since the switch.

Generally speaking, when adjacent buttons on any keypad stop working it because of liquid ingress such as coffee or fizzy drinks either causing corrosion or dried out deposits. It can normally be cured by a full dismantle and clean, or in the case of bad corrosion, some new copper trace. All keyboards are different. You may be lucky and find a relevant repair on YouTube.

The issue here is not with keyboard unfortunately. The only solution that works, although temporary is this:

  1. Unscrew the bottom lid of the laptop
  2. Unplug the battery (you can unscrew it too to make it easier, but that's not necessary)
  3. While battery is unplugged press the power button and hold it for 30 seconds
  4. Plug battery again and see if it works - sometimes you have to repeat it

It works for completely random period of time, but at least it works (for me). It sounded stupid, but I was desperate and gave it a try. I have read somewhere that this trick removes some currents from the motherboard and somehow it works, but don't ask me why ;).

Hope that helps anyone!
