Why does the screen not turn on and the keyboard not work?

It works when plugged into a monitor, but on its own the screen remains black. Also, only the on-screen keyboard works.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @boo57975

With the laptop's display output switched back to the laptop screen, try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the screen and check for any images on the screen.

They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them.

If you can see images, then there's a backlight problem with the screen. This could be due to a faulty backlight power supply on the motherboard, a faulty video cable/cable connection between the motherboard and the LCD panel or a faulty LCD panel.

If you can't see any images, this could be due to a faulty video cable/cable connection between the motherboard and the LCD panel or a faulty LCD panel.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.98 to view the procedure to remove the LCD unit. This will allow you to check the video cable connection on the motherboard. On p.110→ it shows how to access the LCD panel so that it can also be checked or replaced if necessary.

Not sure what you mean by "on screen keyboard"? Have you got the touchscreen version of the laptop?

Has the laptop been dropped or gotten wet at all?

Thank you very much for this in-depth answer to my question! I'm don't even have a clue how to do the first part: switch the display output to the laptop screen, but I'll see what I can figure out. Regarding the on-screen keyboard, I'm referring to the keyboard that you can make display on your screen instead of using an external one. You then use the cursor to press the buttons.

If you press the Fn + F7 keys both together repeatedly you can step the display output from laptop, to laptop and external same image, to external only, to laptop and external extended display then back to the first option i.e. you can choose which combination of displays you want.

To have an onscreen keyboard this means that the laptop must have a touchscreen unless you're using the mouse to select the keys on the screen.

Either way the screen has to work so that you can see what you're typing.
