Improved version of the existing USB to Lightning cable

How do I know which wires connect to which?

My dog chewed through my USB-C to USB-C cable that came with my 2020 MacBook Air. I’ve tried to connect all the wires by matching their colours but I’ve plugged it in and it still doesn’t work. Since there are three red wires I wondered if the order they are reconnected in matters. I am an amateur and don’t really know what I’m doing so any advice would help out.

Sorry, you really need a new cabled here.

Did you ever see a Cray micro computer? All the wires are White! The cable vendor doesn’t need to follow reason. And you can’t assume Red #1 is equal to function to Red 2# line.

The other factor here is besides power there are data lines and the construction of the cable is likewise important for signal integrity.

Do you think if instead of joining the two parts, I should stop the wires on one end and solder it to the other? Would that be a better alternative?

@jesuskhan - OK, this is how I would do it. I would use an Ohm meter and measure one line and the connectors contacts to isolate the active pin. Repeat for the other side. Doing each wire one at a time. And you still need to re-join the shield connection as it’s electrically active as well.

Really a lot of work to band-aid a cord which won’t last very long and could create a safety issue. I would replace the cord it’s not worth the effort.
