Why isn’t my Roomba charging?

I have a model 890 room a it hasn’t been used in over a year because it was in storage now I can’t get the battery to charge. Before I buy a new battery I wanted to make sure the charger was working. When I plug it in the green light on top comes on but as soon as I put the room a on it the green light goes off and stays off until I unplug the charger and plug it back in. Is this a issue with the charger or a safeguard because the battery is worthless now?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Rechargeable batteries, like the one in your Roomba, can degrade over time, especially if left unused for extended periods. This degradation can lead to a reduced ability to hold a charge. If the battery is completely discharged, it might have reached a state known as "deep discharge," making it unresponsive to charging.

According to what I found online, the only option when a Roomba's battery is deep discharged is to replace it. However, before you jump to a replacement you can try resetting the battery:

  1. Turn the Roomba over on its back
  2. Remove the battery
  3. Turn the Roomba back over
  4. Press and hold the power button for five seconds
  5. Turn the Roomba over on its back again
  6. Reinstall the battery
