Screen coming loose from keyboard

Hi! So excited to be using this site for the first time. The lower right corner of my screen is coming loose from the upper right base of my HP laptop. I can see a wire from the screen to the base. On the base, I can see the top part lifted from base. This has slowly gotten worse over time to now I don’t close the laptop anymore. Thank you!

Hi @ilav

Here's the maintenance and service guide, taken from this support webpage for the laptop.

Go to p.65 to view the procedure to remove the display assembly.

This will allow you to check if the hinges are screwed securely to the base enclosure and also the lid.

If the hinges are damaged and need replacing, their part number is Item #4 on p.22. Search online using the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

@jayeff Thanks for the detailed response. I reviewed the maintenance and service guide which is very helpful. I am terrified to give this a try for many reasons (like why do I have to remove the optical disc?) but will give it a go. Accepting your answer after I post this comment.

@ilav

You have to remove the optical disc i.e. dvd drive so that you can remove the base cover as some screws are hidden by the drive when it is in position

The dvd drive is a sealed unit so it's not a problem unless you drop it on the floor ;-)

Good luck. It's not as hard as you think. Just make sure that you follow the procedure especially about removing the battery as you don't want any problems happening with the battery connected to the motherboard when using tools inside the laptop
