Loose and wobbly screen issue

Hi all,

As the title says. My MacBook has a slight wobble in the screen. When opening it too far, it just falls open as well.

Is there any way to tighten this or fix the hinge?

Thanks!

There is two possibilities here…

The screws which hold the display assembly to the uppercase shell have loosened up or fallen out. Follow this guide to get to them to step 13 Retina MacBook 2016 Display Assembly Replacement reference Steps 25 & 28 for the hinge screws.

If the screws aren’t loose or missing that points to the hinge pin which is press fitted into the lid shell. Apple did offer an extended warranty program replacing the displays as the first units didn’t bond the pin into the case properly. At this point you could see if they still offer it, if not you could try glueing the pin in after fully removing the display cleaning the hole and pin with a clean solvent (90% reagent grade isopropyl alcohol) and using cyanoacrylate glue. Otherwise it’s a new display assembly. MacBook 12" Retina (Early 2015-2017) Display Assembly

Ah thanks for the heads up on Apple screen fix. I’ve checked the screws which are incredibly tight so I’ll take it in and see what they say (and report back with the solution!)
