Charger Light Now Responding Battery Not Charging.

Howdy, I have a 11" 2011 MacBook Air where the charger is not lighting up and the battery is not charging. The computer still runs while plugged in. I am wondering if it might be the I/O board? Any ideas?

Given the age of the system it’s likely the battery is just worn out! Let’s do this download this gem of an app CoconutBattery it will let you see more clearly what’s happening, post a snapshot of the apps main window here for us to see as well.

@dmclcc - That was quick!

Well… the battery is the original to the system, sadly batteries don’t last indefinitely, so while the cycle count is low (less that 1k) you likely mostly use your system via the charger.

As SMC does see the charger and just not charging I’m thinking you just need a fresh battery.

The charging circuit may need repairs as some knockoff chargers have been known to damage the comparator resistors burning them out. But this is an easy fix just the same.

So I found another 11” and swapped the battery, it still wouldn’t charge. When I placed the original battery in the other computer it did charge. What would you recommend?

@dmclcc - The charging logic needs fixing

That's the I/O board?

by

@dmclcc - No, the circuitry is on the main logic board.
