Switching Audio Issue Earphone to Speaker

I am using a Moto G82 5g, and up until a few days ago it was working fine. Since then I've been facing issues with the audio.

When I connect my earphones, the apps that I use would play sound though it for a second and switch to the speaker for a few seconds and then back to the earphone, or it will cause the app to pause the audio and after going through this 3 times then it'll continue playing through the earphones until I have to change apps or do something else in the app like load a new video or select a new album to play.

I hope this is a small issue that can be fixed, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @kevster21202

Does the headphone icon on the display disappear when the audio switches back to the phone speaker?

Does the problem stop happening after you have removed/inserted the headphone plug a few times or even gently wiggled it about whilst it is inserted in the jack, before trying to play audio?

If so it could be a faulty headphone jack or even a faulty set of headphones/earphones.

Try using a different, known working set of headphones and check if the problem persists. This is just to eliminate if it is the headphones - fractured wire in cable perhaps.

Hi @jayeff

Yes the icon for wired earphones to the phone speaker does change as well.

Initially it didn't make much of a difference when I would remove the earphones and plug them back in, however, I just cleaned out some lint from the jack with the use of a toothpick, it's reduced the frequency of the issue that I'm facing.

I've used the same earphones on my other phone and I didn't face any issues like this. But I will test it out with a different pair of earphones and update you about it soon.

I really hope it isn't my jack, because I just started facing these issues recently.

Thank you for your response though, I shall keep you posted.

Just wondering if your earphones have a 3 ring or a 4 ring plug connector.

Most phone headphone jacks are designed for earphones with the microphone attachment so this requires a 4 ring TRRS type connector i.e. Tip, Ring 1, Ring 2 & Sleeve (Common) for left audio, right audio, mic and common return path and when inserting a 3 ring TRS type connector i.e. Tip, Ring & Sleeve (Common) for left audio, right audio and common return path sometimes it doesn't quite line up in the headphone socket and these types of problems can occur.

If you do have a set of wired earphones/headphones with a TRRS (4 ring) plug try using that and check if the audio is OK.

Failing that to avoid replacing the headphone socket in the phone, use BT (Bluetooth) earphones instead ;-)

It is a 4 ring connector. So I used a second pair of the same type of wired earphones on my phone and it works perfectly fine. I think the issue is just with the other pair of earphones which is something I still find strange because on my other devices it works perfectly fine. Anyway thank you for your assistance I really appreciate it. :)
