X14 r1 Screen goes black when open past certain angle, probs LCD cable

i have an alienware x14 laptop and the screen is now black when it is open past a certain angle. i think it has to do with the display cable being loose or pinched and I dunno how to fix it myself. I tried, but the official guide was not seemingly consistent with the interior layout of the laptop and i couldnt get some of the screws out. am i screwed or is there a better way to do this besides checking in with a PC repair shop?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I have the same issue? Did you happen to get this fixed?

@davidk37190 I'm planning on getting it fixed, it seems i need the display assembly replaced considering how the computer's designed. it's a couple hundred USD for a fix right now but i'm a big procrastinator. fingers crossed to getting around to it

Hi @henrysutherland

Is this the service manual that you were looking at that didn't match the layout in your model?

If not, go to p.37 to view the procedure for installing the display assembly as this shows the routing of the display cable, between the motherboard and the display assembly.

Reading through it it seems that if it isn't lined up correctly then damage to the cable could occur.

This is what seems to be happening with your model i.e. damaged cable, given the symptoms that you described.

The manual also states that the display assembly is a complete module - see Note: Removing the display assembly on p.35, so it seems that if the cable is damaged, then it may be difficult to source a separate cable or even open the display assembly to access the LCD panel cable connector to replace it.
