phone crashes on calls.

Well I read all of this (and another 278,362 web pages) before deciding I could sort out the repeated crashing with a new hi-capacity battery. Fitted it last night with no problems but today, no change. My iPhone 3GS is in great danger of suffering a cracked screen as I now have a barely controllable urge to smash it into something hard :c)

The problem (as for so many others) is only when there's a sim card inserted and the phone has a signal. It's an excellent (but chunky) iPod touch for now.

Any other suggestions? I'm thinking of reverting to iOS4.1 from 5.01. Does that sound like it could help? As you can see, I'm clutching at straws here ...

Hi Dave, I know this is a bit of a long shot but have you tried taking connector 3 off? If the screen is going black and crashing it may be the proximity sensor. Try disconnecting and then using phone as usual..if the phone stays working then we've found the culprit...there are a few other ideas too. Has the phone had any damage?drop etc?

also it's worth considering anything new you've done to the phone..new apps etc. Have you checked on what apps are running in the background..it may be the workload that is crashing the phone when you make a call. I think if you double tap the home button it takes you to open app screen or is it triple tap... i'll check which it is and get back..
