Won't go past a very dim Apple logo screen

When I turn on the Macbook I get a chime then you can see the Apple logo very dimly. Nothing else. Have tried brightness, plugging it in, etc.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Can you get to recovery mode?

Press and hold the power button for a while. Normally it would say on the screen to keep holding and when to let go, but I'm not sure how dim is, so you may not be able to see that bit. I would say around 15 seconds is a safe bet.

What proceeded this? Did you have a liquid spill or get it wet with rain?.

@markvincer - Very odd! This sounds like a main logic board issue if you only can past the boot up screen.

I think you need to get to an Apple Store or authorized repair shop as this will need deeper diagnostics.

Took it in to Apple and they seem to think logic board. It's gone off to be taken care of.

I'll update here soon, think it's due back on 16th December. They *think* it's logic board, my boss had taken it in as he was going to take the machine over from me. I believe it was originally a refurbished machine but I think they'd said it will be covered.
