A2019, Mac pro, new battery, no charge

MacBook pro a2019 15"

Started not charging, took it in he disconnected battery said it was fine. Got home wouldn't turn on reset SMC, use the different port thought problem fixed or needed a new battery. Restarted recently and it would not start.

Ordered and replaced battery, everything turns on fine I am now at 45%, will not charge, port works as I plugged in external device, can't update due to battery life. Power cord good, one that came with computer and tested with other devices.

When I plug into one of the ports the machine will automatically start, strange and never happened until recently.

Did not see anything loose during battery install.

Touch bar also has not worked since this all started, it shows power takes no commands. Not worried about that.

Changed battery optimization settings in case there was an issue, no change.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@leeclayton51871 - I would recommend you install this App so we can visually see what’s happening CoconutBattery with the charger connected take a snapshot of the Apps main window and post it here.

In the meantime you really want to shutdown your system fully off so you don’t let the system drain down any deeper.

I’m not sure if you have a charger/USB-C cable issue, a given port issue or something deeper within the charging logic or the batteries connection.

Clearly trying a different charger and USB-C cable is easy, just make sure it’s the right charger and a power version of the USB-C cable as there are quite a few data only cables (cheap).

Trying the other side ports can also help in diagnosing if the port hardware is bad.

The last diagnostic would be to use a USB-C power meter which you put inline with your charger. It will allow you to see if the power is getting into the systems charging logic and if the logic is responding. Unless you have good micro soldering skills you’ll likely need to find someone who can help you locally.

Machine is off. I'll look into and try coconutbattery whenever I can.

I just put in a new battery. The ports detect other devices and will even power them like external microphones they seem to work.

The system seems to think the battery is fine but does not detect when I put a charger in the seaport to charge the laptop. I am using all original appropriate charging cables that I have checked.

I'm worried there is something wrong with the logic board and I will have to replace it.

@leeclayton51871 - Well… output power is different than charging the internal battery. Sadly, it does sound like the power controller has failed
