XPS 17 9700 mobo dead. Possible to install a XPS 17 9710 MOBO?

My GPU died on my XPS 17 9700, and seeing I only use the laptop for editing and gaming, it serves no purpose to me anymore. My original idea is just to grab a new 9700 mobo with same CPU/GPU config, but I've come across a XPS 17 9710 MOBO with 11th gen CPU and a RTX 3060 so that got me thinking - are they interchangeable?

All important stuff related to PC are on the MOBO itself, the only thing(s) you connect are battery, keyboard, LCD screen and touchpad - if the dimensions are same (it fits inside the case), should it work?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@krpwa the importance here is that the connectors are all in the same location etc. Yes, it will fit.

What about bios being locked down on touchpad/screen/etc? Or is the likelihood of that small to none?

@krpwa I'd say small to none. If it does happen, you could most likely even replace the BIOS chip or reprogram the BIOS. Just like anything else, there is always a risk that something else creeps up, but if you don't try, you'll never know. Nothing ventured, nothing gained :)

@oldturkey03 Alright, thanks. I think I'll go with the 9710 mobo instead of 9700 and see what happens. I'll update here after I'm done so someone in the future can profit off of my own stupidity :)

@krpwa no stupidity involved. We all do things sometimes that are a bit off but never stupid :-) Yes, keep us informed so that the next person with the same question, will have an immediate answer. Thank you.
