Battery pin out polarity

This may be a strange question but does anyone know which is the positive and which is the negative for the battery terminals on the ipod nano 4th gen.

Answer this question I have this problem too

@theohannam use your voltmeter for that. The positive and negative are the outside contacts. Try left/Black and right/Red probe. If your meter moves in the clockwise direction (analog meter) or shows the voltage as positive (digital meter), you know the proper polarity. If it goes counterclockwise or shows a negative voltage, you know you have it reversed.

Get a magnifying glass and look closely at the battery terminal, there will be a + and - on the cable.

Check you don't have the same situation as my wife's iPod. The battery you would buy from this site has the polarity reversed, the P/N ends in 0553 and the original is 0552, it has IC chips directly on the ribbon cable.

I have a question posted as to whether the 0553 will work or not, due to the IC chips I'm guessing it won't. My unanswered post has pics that demonstrate the issue:
