acceleration gives out RPMs increase

what are the potential causes of the acceleration sporadically giving out (mainly with accelerating onto a highway) and the RPMs shooting up?

Initial guess; low xmission oil, xmission pressure control solenoid(s), burned out clutch packs. Guessing is easy, diagnosing and troubleshooting requires familiarity with engines, EFI systems, electronically controlled xmissions.

It will do that if it is downshifting. If it is not, then something is slipping. Cause can be as simple as a problem with your transmission oil, or as complicated as a problem with the transmission itself.
