Why is my laptop flicking between plugged in and battery?

My laptop won't charge while turned on, it says plugged in when I attempt to charge it and then says battery and just alternates between the 2 while not charging. While off it charges fine, when I turn it on the red charging light turns off as it struggles to maintain charging it. I checked and my power supply whilst not the original that came with the laptop, the specs on the charger are suitable to charge it.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi @duck26742

What is the full model number of the laptop?

Create a battery report to check the status of the battery.

It may be that the battery is failing and this is why it behaves as it does.

When you have the report, compare the Design Capacity value versus the Full Charge Capacity value. For a good battery they should nearly be the same. You can work out as a percentage the condition of the battery now as to what it was when new, using the formula Full Charge Capacity value x 100 ÷ Design Capacity value
