iPod Video doesn't boot, but the hard disk starts spinning

Hi everybody!

I've a problem with my iPod Video 30Gb, since it "crashed" while listening to music. The battery was nearly empty and I thought I could easily recharge it.

But I plugged it into my computer and it doesn't boot at all anymore. Sometimes the screen flashes white for half a second when I plug it in, but I've never seen the Apple icon again. When the iPod isn't connected and I try to turn it on, I can hear the harddisk starting to spin, and the read/write head coming out of the parking position and going back again. The Harddisk keeps spinning then till I reset the iPod or plug it in. That means the harddisk doens't start to spin or stops spining when its plugged in. I just wonder, because if it was a harddisk issue, the Apple icon would appear?! Isn't the firmware on a small flash-drive?! And if the battery was really old (what it is nearly anyway), the disk wouldn't spin? Do you think the problem is a damaged Logic Board?

Thanks for your help!

have you tried forcing a reset of your iPod? press and hold the Select(center) button and Menu button simultaneously for a few seconds.

another thing to try - force the iPod into Disk Mode, then connect to your computer and try to restore the software from iTunes. To force it into Disk Mode, press and hold the Select(center) button and the Play/Pause button simultaneously for a few seconds. if successful, the screen should display a check mark and say "Disk Mode" at the top.

see if either of those things do anything and report back.

I tried both things. Resetting the iPod results (in case it isn't connected to the computer) in a restart of the harddisk. It stops spinning and starts again.

Forcing the iPod into disk mode doesn't work, there is no reaction.

Interesting is, that the iPod turns off completely when I connect it to a power supply or the computer. In this case I can't even reset it. But sometimes the screen lights white for half a second...
