Accidentally bought and installed wrong battery

I was unaware that the same model number could be for different years, and ordered the a1534 early 2015 retina battery and installed it into my a1534 early 2016 retina laptop. It has been working fine for a month, but now it temporarily fails to charge and gives large estimated times to be fully charged. The battery's seem to have different model numbers for each, so I imagine they're not completely compatible? Should I just take the L and order the right battery or is the laptop ruined?

Since the laptop still turns on, it is highly unlikely anything is broken.

You should be able to return the battery and get this one instead.

Thanks for your comment! You think I can return the battery? Or did it void the warranty by putting it in the wrong laptop

@andrewhirthler - iFixit also offers a bottom cover with the battery which is a bit cheaper MacBook 12" Retina (Early 2016-2017) Lower Case Assembly

@andrewhirthler I'm not familiar with the return policy on iFixit, so I'd try returning it and see if they deny you.

@andrewhirthler Like the others, I can't speak for iFixit, but it certainly can't hurt to contact the iFixit Store personnel and talk to them about it. Best way is email at support@ifixit.com.
