Touchscreen is not working

My display is alright, the touch is not working. Initally it worked on restart but it's not working since a couple of days now. I turned on the touch input on display option from the developer mode and was able to note that after a touch input, the touch indicator gets stuck over that point and phone gets stuck. Can someone help me? Do I need to replace the screen?

Hi Pranshu,

It sounds like you've done what you can to ensure that this isn't a software problem, so yes the next logical step would be to replace the screen. Although there are also chips on the motherboard that handle the touch screen, by far the most common point of failure for touch issues is the screen itself.

Of course, with modern phones the OLED is fused to the digitizer, so they can't be replaced separately and need to be bought as a single assembly. iFixit has a guide showing you step by step how to do that replacement, and you can even support their repair efforts by buying the screen directly from them if you like. Otherwise they should be readily available on sites like Amazon, eBay and AliExpress, among others.

Hi Jerry,

First of all, thank you for your response. I thought that since phone is more than 5 years old, I was not expecting a response.

I went to a local shop here in my country, they installed a spare screen and I was able to at least transfer my data to the new phone. Even during that process, there were a lot of ghost touches when the device was plugged in. I had to painstakingly sit for more than 6 hours to transfer via move to ios app.

Latest update is that the repair store would backup my data and reset the phone and see if it’s a software bug issue or not. And if it doesn’t resolve, they’ll try a new screen.

I went through the iFixit guide and it was super helpful in understanding about the issue.

Thank you.
