Why is my switch powering off?

I bought a switch on eBay and of course I trust people too much and I kinda got scammed. The sd card connector won’t fit/fits extremely loose in the Nintendo switch but that’s not the main problem I’m having. Whenever I even slightly bump the switch, it powers off and I have to press the power button. It doesn’t seem to fully shut off however. Does anybody know what’s going on? It also happens whenever I connect the sd card connector while the switch is actively on.

Just a little update I disassembled the entire thing lol and I got the bump=kill switch problem fixed but the sd card connector is loose still. Will keep everyone updated!

Hi Max853,

Personally I'd be very suspicious of the SD card reader itself. From my experience doing a midframe replacement on my granddaughter's Switch, I found that getting that darn thing plugged back in correctly was harder than it looked. Took me a couple of tries and I did end up taking off the foam pad so I could tell when the connector clicked in place.

I'd suggest playing with that; you might as well take a magnifying glass and check the pins on both sides while you're at it. If you find any bent ones they can sometimes be straightened with some fine tip tweezers. Clean them with 90% or higher concentration of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and try plugging it in again. If you don't get it the first time, try, try again; it took me multiple attempts to get it in right.

If it refuses to work correctly even after all the fussing you can do with it, my next idea would be to go ahead and replace it and see if that fixes the problem. Here's the iFixit guide for doing that job.

@max853 Sounds good, Max; that's what I'd do in your place. Let us know what happens when the replacement's in place!

sounds like someone has had it opened before you, remove the metal back plate and make sure the battery is fully connected

I have already checked the battery and it’s fine. Seems like normal to me. The one thing I have noticed is that when I graze a screwdriver over the sd port on the switch mb, it powers off if it is on

@max853 disconnect the sd reader and see if restarts anymore
