SOLVED! After my new logic board replacement,? folder appears.

I had a ram problem with my A1370, and replaced the logic board. I replaced the components needed, and it boots. It goes to a white screen, but about 60 seconds later it flashes the ? folder. I held option while I had my macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra USB 3.0 into the PC. Nothing shows. Reset the NVRAM, tried OPT-CMD-R, CMD-R, and any other recommendations. I reseated the SSD and ensured all cables and ribbon cables were connected properly. I also double-checked if the logic board was installed properly, and it was. I don't know what else to do but go onto Ifixit. Please help!

I've got my MacBook to work!

I put Hackintosh Lion on my USB

Booted it and it worked!

I went into the installer and installed macOS Lion.

What my problem was is that:

  1. The firmware was not updated
  2. It could not find the original PC's OS Files
  3. Would not recognize Mac USB
  4. What solved this is I flashed Hackintosh Lion 10.7.5 onto my USB using balenaEtcher.
  5. Went into the boot menu and clicked OS X Base System. Before I could install it, I had to go into Disk Utility and erase my SSD. After this, I set the computer up (I recommend you do not set up iCloud, it takes forever.) and I kept updating it all the way to High Sierra. ****Don't go to High Sierra straight away, the firmware needs to be updated. Follow these steps!:***
    1. Install El Capitan, and Hackintosh by the way for all of them if you only have a Windows PC.
    2. Install Sierra, DON'T UPDATE STRAIGHT TO HIGH SIERRA, IT REQUIRES NEW FIRMWARE.
    3. Install High Sierra.
    4. I hope this helps with other people who have this problem!

The question mark is telling you the system can’t locate the OS files as it still is looking for the original drive (not yours) to boot from.

To over come that you need to use the startup key Option (⌥) to gain access to the startup manager. Then once running open up your preferences and set it permanently to your drive using the Start up drive setting.

I've done that-

In the startup manager, it shows no disks whatsoever. It shows the mouse and network options and lets me connect to wifi. Tried all startup commands I know of, and asked friends, and still, nothing is working. If you're wondering, no I do not have another system running macOS. Reseated SSD countless times, and nothing worked. Would I have to buy a new SSD? It also won't boot into any menu, like safe mode or recovery, and it is USED to show the drives. I had hackintosh on it, as trying to get my old Dell Inspiron to get an operating system on it.

What is the macOS version you had on the drive and what is the one you are booting from?

I'm suspecting the replacement logic board never got the firmware update so it doesn't know about the newer file system you're currently running with (High Sierra or newer) Time to do a bit of drive juggling!

Here we need access to a second Mac to create a bootable macOS installer USB thumb drive with the macOS version your system is currently running.

Next you need a sacrificial external drive to install the OS onto (as we not want to damage your internal SSD you transferred from your old logic board.

To start off, I had macOS 10.13.6 installed on the SSD, and I'm trying to boot from the USB that has 10.13.6 on it (Installed with Windows because I don't have any other Macs available.)

All right. A bit of a problem here. It's my only Mac, & none of my friends or relatives have Macs. I'm thinking of purchasing one online. Dunno if that would work, though... Would it have to be OS X? I had 10.13.6 before the new one-

Not sure what my logic board is running, as I purchased it from eBay (where I've gotten all of my Apple-related products) and I am assuming it came with the macOS that was pre-installed with the MacBook when it first came out ( OS X 10.7 Lion) or if I should contact Apple to get a USB formatted to it, if they still do that is. Could Hackintosh work? I have a few computers lying around with no OS installed.

@d1ss - OK, I see your problem as Windows won’t make a bootable Mac disk. You need a Mac running macOS to create a workable drive.

The problem is the drives format and the boot-loader element within the drive. Does your older logic board still work? You may need to put it back in the then create a workable thumb drive.

Alrighty. So, my older logic board does not work due to a RAM issue. 3 beeps for around every 3 seconds it pauses. Since the RAM is soldered to the logic board, there isn't a way to fix that. Should I purchase an OS X Lion thumb drive from a 3rd party source (as in eBay)? I dunno, because that may be a waste of money..

But also, I could just buy another MacBook. I just want to get this fixed though :(

I've spent more than what I paid for on my Mac.
